Jeff Merkley Takes the Stage w/ Video!

Oregon Senate candidate Jeff Merkley was one of four Senate challengers who spoke at the convention today in Denver. Jeff Merkley took to the stage and laid out his vision for 2009 and beyond. Jeff is very thankful to have been given the opportunity to speak at the convention. We just put the video of Jeff's speech up on our You Tube page, Check it out

Last night in Denver, Jeff was interviewed by Koin 6 news inside the convention. Like many people, Jeff had a very positive reaction to Hillary's speech last night. When asked if he thought Hillary did what she needed to get done, here's what Jeff had to say:

Absolutely. The message that she conveyed tonight was that all of this is so much bigger than any one person. This is about the people of America. It's about the mother suffering from cancer and needing health care. It's about the single parent trying to raise a child. It's about the American worker looking for a living wage job. That's what this campaign is about. Her message of unity was tremendous tonight.

If you'd like to watch the video of Jeff reacting to Hillary's speech, go here. This morning, Jeff was also interviewed by Katu News about his upcoming speech at the convention. Jeff spoke about the Smith's campaign constant negative attacks and what he views as the real issues of the election.Check it out.

We do need a working majority in the Senate if we want to pass good progressive bills in 2009. As the next Senator from Oregon, here are just a few things Jeff will do:

* Jeff will do everything in his power to help end the Iraq War.

* Jeff will work to pass universal health care through Congress.

* Jeff will push payday lending regulation at the federal level.

* Jeff will push for serious investments in solar, wind and wave energies and cellulosic ethanol.

* Jeff will push legislation providing family members of fallen veterans a college education.

* Jeff will push for increased investments in screenings for traumatic brain injuries and PTSD for veterans.

* Jeff will fight for serious investments in high speed rail.

* Jeff will work to pass the Employee Free Choice Act through Congress.

* Jeff will work to close tax loopholes that award companies that ship jobs overseas.

Republican Gordon Smith is a Bush rubberstamp Senator who has voted for billions in tax breaks for big oil, helped block the Employee Free Choice Act and even voted against funding body armor for our troops. It's time to retire Gordon Smith and replace him with Jeff Merkley who always puts the best interest of Americans before the big corporations and special interests.

Re: Jeff Merkley to Speak at the Convention Today! (2.00 / 1)

I'm stuck in Portland at Merkley HQ. Regardless...I'm on pins and needles waiting for Jeff to take the stage. A little over an hour and he'll be taking the stage!

Merkley was great (2.00 / 1)

I'm shocked Mark Udall wasn't one of them, considering it's Colorado and all.

Re: Merkley was great (none / 0)

Good point. It is interesting that they chose to let Tom Udall speak over Mark considering the convention is in CO.

Re: Great work Jeff! (none / 0)

Thanks! I thought he did well too. My favorite line of Jeff's was, "Smith talks like Barack Obama but votes like George Bush." It's perfect considering what's going on here on the ground in Oregon. Smith has now aired three ads using Obama to attempt to appear more moderate.
