Let's Bring My Friend Home

One of my closest friends is enjoying a lovely day in scalding-ass hot Iraq right now.  There ain't much that I can do about it at the moment.  Really there's only one thing I can do right now, actually.  I'll vote in November, of course, but it ain't November.  I just kicked $30 Obama's way.  August is almost over.  We need big numbers.  We need a fully-funded campaign that can obliterate McCain's imperialistic dreams.  I want my friend (and his 140,000 or so buddies) home as soon as possible.

John McCain is an impediment to bringing these fine men and women home soon.  Even if he could be trusted to end the war in Iraq (and I do not trust him, frankly) he'll get us into a war with Iran just as quickly.  The madness has to stop.  War should be a last resort, not the first and only option.

We have a ticket.  Obama/Biden is the first ticket of my adult life that I'm completely comfortable with.  I was too young to vote for Clinton/Gore which is the only other ticket in my life I would have been this comfortable with.

Guys, please kick in some money.  They're even giving out t-shirts for donations of $30 or more.  Barack Obama opted out of public financing on the assumption he'd raise at least $50 million a month.  He's done that, but only barely, so far.

This is my fifth or sixth donation, I think.  Each have been small.  They add up, however.  $30 from me, $10 from you, and so on and that winds up being real money.  We need our campaign to be able to strike back hard and fast when new smears come out.  That takes money.  I'm confident of victory but I'm not blind to the risks or the requirements.

I want my friend home safe, and I don't want him deployed into a war we never needed to fight, not ever again.  John McCain has some good characteristics, I will gladly concede.  However, the issue that matters most to me at this point in history is that the United States end this imperialistic/interventionist/hegemonic bender we've been on.  Obama/Biden would be the correction that this country needs, that frankly the world needs.  I can hold off on beer one week or two, I think, to facilitate that.

You guys in?

Tips? (2.00 / 1)

I'll take 'em, but really, forward those funds to Obama/Biden.  They're not as likely to blow the money on cycling gear!

Obama/Biden Swag (2.00 / 1)

When do we get to buy all the fun swag for the fall?

I would like to replace my Obama signs with Obama/Biden signs, stickers, etc.

I also plan to send stuff to my family in Ohio.

Yes! $100 to Barack and Biden!
Frankly, I'm thrilled with Biden, love his intelligence and passion, and his foreign policy smarts will really show up McCain.
I was going to do a donation today anyway, but I wanted to tell you RB, that I got involved more politically because of the Iraq War, and because of what the republicans are doing to our vets by trying to cut funding to the VA, misdiagnosing PTSD to save money, and all the other dirty tricks they've been pulling.
So this one is for your friend. And my best friend's son, who just got back. And for US Army Paratrooper, who posts here and is getting sent back to Iraq.
Thanks for the diary.

Re: Maybe Your Friend Wants to Stay (none / 0)

Seems to me that your friend should have known about the war prior to his enlisting.  If he did not want to go, don't you think that he should not have enlisted?

He went into ROTC in 1998.  He got out of law school quite recently.

Okay, so he should have known that the military fights wars and that wars can come along with or without his approval.  Is he not wanting to be there?  Or are you just concerned about his safety?
